Louis Vuitton Brings Charlotte Perriand's 1934 Modern Beachside Home To Reality.

This is not the first time an old design concept of pioneer Charlotte Perriand's has been realized.  I have already shared with you her 1938 Mountain Refuge concept which was constructed by Cassina in 2012.



Originally conceived in 1934, Charlotte Perriand's chic beach front holiday home was a second prize winning project at a design contest held by “L’Architecture d’Aujourd’hui” magazine.

The concept was meant to encourage affordable holiday homes, made of natural resources, for a wide-range audience. A pioneer in interior architecture, Charlotte Perriand would later rework the idea with several versions for wealthier vacationers but the project would only remain at an early conceptual stage.




Now, 80 years later, Louis Vuitton sponsored a project to build 'La Maison au bord de l'eau' (the original name of the structure) for Design Miami. The team at Louis Vuitton constructed the structure using archival drawings and sketches from the Perriand architectural firm:








Today, although these studies needed an adaptation to translate the original sketches and notes into a tangible structure, the spirit of the visionary woman has been respected to the fullest with the genuine savoir-faire and help of Charlotte Perriand‘s architecture team.










Three vintage Charlotte Perriand tabouret stools, along with three chairs designed by Cassina based on existing models, have also been added to the original furnishings in this model home.














La Maison au bord de l’eau was on view through December 8, 2013 at The Raleigh Hotel. Now the home will presumably be sold to an art collector or architecture enthusiast with an equivalent passion for design.



Cassina and Louis Vuitton have also teamed up to present "Charlotte Perriand une icône de la modernité” in which Cassina showcases a unique and colourful installation at its Paris showroom during Maison & Objet as an homage to the pioneering architect Charlotte Perriand: an encounter which combines furniture re-editions by Cassina and fashion by Louis Vuitton to honour this magnificent contemporary legend.

The Suntro House by Jorge Hernandez de la Garza

Get a load of the stunning and modern Suntro House by Jorge Hernandez de la Garza in Morelos, Mexico.



The following text is courtesy of the architect:
This house is located in a residential area of Oaxtepec, a place of exceptional natural beauty. It is contiguous to the north with the hill of Tepozteco and to the south with a highway that leads to Haciendas de Yautepec. The lot is oriented to the northeast with a splendid sight of the Tepozteco.




The natural light is filtered through the folds of the house in the shape of rays that softly flood the spaces. Reflections and shadows on walls and ceilings animate the interior.



The shape responds to the hard hotness of the site, to place every space in the best way inside of a curved skin that opens to the immediate context to obtain the best climate and views to allow the wind to circulate and cool the house.





The topography presents an unevenness that was approached for the pool to stay at streets level letting the rest of the house be lowered to midlevel. The organization takes place in a clear horizontal division of the house locating in the ground floor the public and recreation areas and in the top floor the dormitories connected with the lower floor by an inner-outer circulation.




The different habitable spaces fit in a transparent area that makes its continuity with the exterior by the concrete floor that extends to the open areas, allowing the users to move in a fluid space without obstacles.




The front appears slender with a great sense of lightness as if it were only a volume floating over the living and dining room, this sensation changes with perspective, as the planes create volumes and empty spaces, resulting in a rationally controlled formal experiment.

From The Garage To The Wine Cellar, 35 Photos Of A New Gorgeous Modern Concrete & Glass Home In Italy.

House M is a residential home designed by Bolzano-based Architects monovolume architecture + design that is located in the center of Merano, in the quiet area of Obermais near the Northernmost part of Italy. Construction on the private concrete home began in 2011 and was completed in 2012.







The concept for the project is based on the idea of playing with transparent and solid façades to create a seamless transition between the outdoors and the interior of the home. Incredible panoramic and perspective views are a result of the numerous glass windows and walls.






The interior of the home is predominantly white with kitchen, bathroom and dressing room cabinetry and furnishings in white, built-in bookshelves and storage cubbies in white, and white marble flooring.












In the bedrooms and upper hallways, warm wood flooring sets off the white walls, polished chrome hardware and accents in the home. Throughout the home, recessed lighting in a square shape as opposed to the usual circular shape adds to the geometry of the design.




The home even has an elevator, stairs that glow, interior glass walled partitions, a large and inviting wine cellar and a garage with a New York skyline photographic mural that hides storage.








Although it may have been styled for these photos, the home is punctuated with fabulous modern art ranging from the photos of Helmut Newton to Andy Warhol's silkscreens.




Outside, the swimming pool is built on a slope, exposing one end of the pool above ground. A glass wall surrounds the deck area and tiny tiles in various shades of blue cover the pool's interior.






The pool's surround is the same predominantly white marble, thinly veined with grey, that is found throughout the ground floor of the home. The home's exterior details and accessories are all of modern design, from the outdoor furniture and planters to the stainless steel freestanding mail box.



Just under 4,600 square feet (1400 m³), the non-frivolous exterior of the three story home -one below and two above ground- is entirely white and set on a lot measuring just under 4,000 square feet (1200 m³).

To comply with the energy technologies, the building has been designed as a compact volume, consisting of a basement and two floors above ground.

In terms of its construction, the house is made of reinforced concrete with double glazed external windows that make it completely insulated.
