Domenico de Palo's Sexy Sliver of A Sink. The Silenzio For Antonio Lupi.

Silenzio is a Corian washbasin that is a sexy sliver of Industrial Design. The concept behind Silenzio is to offer only the functionality and sculptural mark of a washbasin, allowing it to be perfectly integrated into the wall, dominated by the atmospheric elements of cut and light.





The unmistakable signature of Domenico de Palo is even more evident in this washbasin which is able to blend into the surface onto which it is installed. Silenzio appears to come out of the wall, giving it a life and shape.






The Silenzio washbasin is realized in Corian and, after it has been positioned (with puttying and plastering), it can be painted just like the rest of the wall, so that it disappears into the same. Silenzio can be described as a “nude” washbasin to be dressed in clothing that can be changed and updated with different finishes.





Silenzio offers an unconventional reinterpretation of the bathroom. It is a fusion between a functional object of the past and a newly invented element of the present.

Kanera's Custom Made Furniture For Their Beautiful Undulating Wash Basins.

About four years ago I wrote a post on some lovely custom made sinks made by Germany's Kanera whose basins, with their undulating forms, let the water pool like little natural lakes.



Since that post, Kanera has discontinued The Kanera D model and added the smaller Kanera 1X. Custom-made furniture is now available to complement these modern Kanera washbasins. Their washbasin units are made according to the customers' design guidelines as well as their furnishing requirements, which are tailored to each individual building project.










The Kanera 1E, 1H and 1X sinks, made of enamelled steel, are available as wall mounted washbasins or counter top inset vessels or in custom made bathroom furnishings, like the ones shown in this post, by Kanera.

All washstand models can be custom-made with individual trough position up to a total length of approx. 1800 mm. If clients so wish, all washstands can be supplied with drilled faucet and special plumbing holes. For the enameled steel washstands there is a choice of drainage system with or without an overflow. Double washbasin units are also available.

New Terra Sink Design From Gore Design Co. Who Brought Us The Erosian Sink.

Years ago, I shared the stunning Erosian sink made of eco-friendly concrete by Brandon Gore and Gore Design Company. Since then, I have updated info and images of the Erosian Sink as well as a sneak peek at their newest sink, the Terra Sink.

The Erosian Sink
The Erosion Sink is an original design that Brandon Gore has been creating for many years now and I initially featured it on this blog way back in 2007. It has been heralded in many magazines as well as several books. No two sinks are the same, each is completely unique.






Each Erosion Sink is created by hand and completely custom, in all aspects - the shape of the erosion pattern, location of the drain, size and shape of the slab, color, and so on and so forth. This particular Erosion Sink was a challenge due to the permanently cast-in grid-drain.



This California client wanted to wall mount this sink and did not want any plumbing to show below. Brandon has done this a few times in the past, and says this will probably be the last, logistically he prefers a removable drain.




With this particular sink below, the client wished to cover the drain. Gore Design worked with the architect to design a natural solution, a cast concrete stone, that was integrated into the design. The removable stone floats 1/2” above the surface of the sink allowing water to flow uninterrupted below to the concealed drain.





Now, a peek at their newest design, the Terra Sink:



An undulating sink basin of polished concrete sits atop chopped lumber. The hand crafted fabric formed concrete sink was made in four days in the Gore Design Co.'s Artisan Workshop. ( photos by John Romero of Los Angeles).
