Check out RoboCop (2014) concept art and interview with Igor Knezevic!

The controversial RoboCop remake is finally here and, in it's opening day, was the number one movie in the U.S. and Canada making a total worldwide gross of $100,283,627 so far. One of the many talented artists working on the film is Igor Knezevic. Knezevic is an award-winning professional designer and architect specialized in creating 3D environments, concept designs and product designs who's worked on big budget films like X-Men: First Class (2011), In Time (2011) and R.I.P.D. (2013).

Maurice Mitchell: Thanks for doing this interview Igor! You mainly worked on prop designs for the RoboCop remake. What kind of props did you help design?
Igor Knezevic: I worked mainly on hi-tech table / machine assembly design used to assemble and disassemble RoboCop in a pivotal scene in the film. It was a combination hi-tech medical table into which RoboCop is "plugged". Then, the whole thing can split apart and disappear into the floor.

Then, I also worked on designs for some "street furniture"... meaning, your usual street objects, benches, bus stops, street lights, ATM machines, trashcans - but updated to about 40 years into the future. Some of that ended up in the flick - some didn't.

MM: Working on a big blockbuster film can be challenging, but was there a design you found the most challenging?
IK: Surely this "assembly" lab contraption was the big one. As I worked on it, I immediately started doing previs of how it could move so that body parts can be detached and cleared away without hitting each other. I knew that the prop will be actually made for real via CNC machining and then augmented in CGI - so there needed to be a degree of reality to it. It wasn't pure a CG thing. So I worked in 3D from the start.

MM: They're really amazing stuff Igor. So, where can we see your work next?
IK: Next one coming up is Wachowskis' Jupiter Ascending where I worked on costume designs. Also...I recently wrapped up with some work on Terminator: Genesis.
